Mineral Resources

From the subterraneous resources point of view, Albania involves quite a lot of assortments in terms of mineral variety.

Following a detailed and intensive development of Geologic Researches along with the Mines Industry an evidence of great reserves exists and is obtainable. The list includes minerals such: chrome, copper, iron nickel, nickel, silicate, construction materials, decorative stones, bitumen sands etc.

  • 1.100 chrome locales are found in the ultra-alkaline rocks of Albania.

  • The copper industry comprises 36 reserves, 48 objects (small resources), 26 mines, 8 enriching fabrics, 2 melting - and 1 refinement. By use of copper exploiting copper metal has been issued, which has been either exported or processed into cable wire. A quantity has been used for gold metal, silver, selenium, tellurium and pyrite concentration for vitriol.

So far the following have been discovered:

  1. Calcareous evaluated equal to 130 million tons of granite and stone reserves;

  2. 50 sources of decorative stones connected to carbon rocks;

  3. More than 16 sources of decorative stones of magma category;

  4. Above 30 calcareous resources, gypsum and anhydrites all over the region. These resources do represent a huge business opportunity for people in the area so to establish and initiate their own activities related to decorative stones and materials as well as work as a raw material supplier to small cement factories nearby. In this way the region could further develop and could be able not only to meet the local requests but also to consider the exporting opportunity. The country could profit a lot of while undergoing a steady progression of processes related to decorative stones and construction materials (such as mining and processing). Following this trend, importing these products from other countries (mostly neighboring regions) is predetermined to fall apart, as a consequence employing more than 2000 workforce on a national scale.

The carbon-calcareous rocks up to now evaluated only for the artisan production of lime and cement, are necessary to use for constructing airports, extending railways, highways north-south, west- east as the only material that completes the technical condition for such bases up to paving streets, renouncing the paving with gravel of the rivers and rubble with carbon materials. With the colossal reserves of basaltic materials we have from north to south are completed not only the requests of the country, but we add a new voice to export.
